Intimate San Francisco Zoom Wedding Thanks to COVID-19: Cecily & Nick

Cecily & Nick were set to have the boho wedding of their dreams this past May in Wickenburg, AZ. Leading up to the wedding, we were watching the news of COVID spreading, just like the rest of the world. In March, Arizona was sent into lockdown. We, along with many other people in the wedding industry (and in the world), sort of assumed we’d be in quarantine for a couple weeks and all of this would disappear. Then, during our final details meeting via Zoom (8 weeks out from their big day), the NBA announced it’s shutdown and Tom Hanks (NOT FOREST!!!) got COVD. As we continued our call, we all tried to remain calm thinking that a May wedding was still going to be a possibility.

One part we forgot to mention: Cecily & Nick live in Northern California and were planning to have a destination wedding in Arizona. So, not only would their guests need to travel, but so would they. About 4 or 5 days after our Zoom meeting, we made the official call to postpone the wedding to the Fall of 2020 instead. This was such a weighed and tough decision, but it was most important for C & N to have their friends and family safely present. Days later, Cali completely shut down and banned travel across state lines. As things continued to get crazier across the US, we knew we all had made the right call.

Giving up wedding dates has been so hard on so many couples this year. We’ve done our best to help our couples control what they can and let go of what they can’t. We knew Cecily and Nick just wanted to be married so we encouraged them to still get married on their original date (May 2nd), but there was one problem, all San Francisco courthouses were closed for the foreseeable future. They spent most of April coming to terms with the fact that they’d just simply have to wit to be legally married. Heartbreaking to say the least. Then, on April 25th the Oakland City Clerk announced that they’d be accepting contactless wedding license applications. C & N completed the forms, dropped them off on Monday the 27th, and crossed their fingers that it would be approved by Saturday. C then got to work on planning a small, intimate wedding ceremony they’d broadcast via Zoom for close family & friends. She and her gal pals planned it all in 5 days! She ordered a bouquet from The Bouqs Co, ordered a beautiful lace dress from Revolve, hired Jeku Photography to capture all the moments, chatted with her older brother about being their officiant, and Nick’s mom sent them a cake all the way from Maine (from Butter&). A few of their close friends came to Golden Gate Park were the ceremony was being held. They spread out on quilts in the open grass to witness Cecily & Nick vow their love to each other. After the emotional ceremony, they took photos and drank mimosas. Those of us that couldn’t be present, watched, in tears, via Zoom. As Cecily has said, “It was perfectly imperfect” and we’d have to agree.

Since this special day, we’ve postponed their wedding a second time. They are now set to have their big celebration in Fall of 2021…and lets just say, we are counting down the days until we get to love on them and celebrate WITH them. This has been a rollercoaster of a year but we are forever grateful for clients who have trusted us through this process and continue to trust us.

CONGRATS C & N!!!! We love you guys tons! XO
